Why You Should See a Podiatrist if You're Disabled

Wallace Howell

If you are disabled, then you might be used to seeing a lot of doctors for help with your disability. One medical provider that you might not have seen lately — or at all — might be a podiatrist. However, for many disabled people, it makes sense to see a podiatrist on a regular basis. You might want to schedule an appointment with one of these medical providers as well for these reasons.

Regain Function as Much as Possible

If your disability is related to your feet or legs, then you might not have full function of your feet and legs. Because of this, you might not be able to walk, run, play sports, or do many of the other things that you wish you could do. Depending on the extent of your disability and the type of disability that you have, you might never be able to gain full function. However, if you see a podiatrist, they might be able to help you regain function as much as possible, which could make it possible for you to be able to do things that you haven't been able to do in years. Many people find that their quality of life improves after seeing a podiatrist for this reason alone.

Get Help With Your Pain

As a disabled person, you might be used to dealing with a lot of pain. Your feet might be in constant pain, for example, and you might not really think there is anything that you can do about it. However, surgery could be an option, or wearing special shoes or using special inserts might actually help. A podiatrist can talk to you about your foot-related pain and can help you as much as possible with getting rid of this pain.

Avoid Financial Difficulties

As someone who is disabled and who therefore might not be able to work, you might try to avoid unnecessary medical appointments because you are concerned about the cost. However, it's possible for you to see a podiatrist without having to be the one to pay for it. Many podiatrists and their services are covered by the NDIS, so if you're a disabled person in Australia, then you should not have to worry about the cost of paying for a podiatrist if you simply look for an NDIS podiatry provider. Luckily, there are plenty of these throughout Australia, so no matter what state you might be located in, you should be able to find a suitable podiatrist whose services will be covered by the NDIS.

About Me
Protecting and Maintaining Graceful Beautiful Summertime Feet

Hi, my name is Julie, and in the past, I have been too embarrassed to wear sandals or flip flops to the beach. While all my friends had beautiful, silky smooth feet, I had crusty, dry and sometimes fungus-laden feet. My options seemed to be socks with sandals or avoiding the beach altogether. Since there was no way I was going to do either of those, I met with a podiatrist and launched on a journey to fix, protect and maintain my feet. Along the way, I learned a ton of facts, home remedies and foot protection strategies. I plan to include all of those ideas and more in this blog, and I hope the posts here help you.
